In 2024, I made the scariest — and most freeing — decision of my life: I left my 9–5 job and started my own virtual bookkeeping and taxation practice. On paper, it might look like a career pivot. But in truth, it was something much deeper: a return to myself.

For years, I worked in corporate accounting roles that were supposed to be “good jobs.” They offered stability, structure, and a clear path forward. But with every passing year, I felt more disconnected from the work and from myself. The days were full, but never fulfilling. I was constantly chasing deadlines, approvals, and expectations — and always felt like I was falling short, no matter how hard I worked.

Eventually, the burnout caught up with me. I realized I wasn’t just tired — I was stuck. And I knew something had to change.

I Didn’t Want to Quit — I Wanted to Rebuild

It wasn’t that I had fallen out of love with bookkeeping or taxation. In fact, I’ve always found comfort in numbers — in the logic, the structure, and the quiet problem-solving. I love the way well-kept books can tell the story of a business. I love how the right financial insight can give someone the courage to grow.

What I needed wasn’t a new career. I needed a new relationship with my work.

I wanted freedom — to work in a way that aligned with my values. I wanted flexibility — to show up for my family and for myself without guilt. And most of all, I wanted to make a real difference — not by hitting targets on someone else’s spreadsheet, but by helping real people make sense of their businesses and their lives.

That’s when my practice was born — not out of ambition, but out of intention.
